In recent years, a greater understanding of the natural progression of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) has provided clarity as to the importance of an early and accurate diagnosis. Patients experiencing delayed diagnosis are subjected to increasing morbidity and mortality. Fortunately, there are now a number of patient-oriented and evidence-based strategies that allow clinicians to effectively manage patients with IPF. These pharmacological and nonpharmacological strategies allow clinicians to improve patient outcomes by reducing the rate of lung function decline and possibly, increasing patient survival. However, in order to truly optimise patient outcomes, a patient-centred, multidisciplinary approach will need to be implemented. This site seeks to provide clinicians with resources that will showcase the evolving knowledge of evidence-based strategies to improve early diagnosis and treatment of IPF.
